FAQ

The term Aromatic Therapy is interchangeable with Aromatherapy. Aromatherapy is a complementary  practice that involves using essential oils and other plant-based aromatics for therapeutic purposes. Essential oils are concentrated extracts of plants that contain volatile compounds. These compounds are believed to interact with the body's physiological and psychological systems when inhaled or applied topically.

While I can and do incorporate other forms of aromatics into this practice (for example, sometimes I'll use resins, hydrosols or incense), the consistency and overall recognition of essential plant oils helps to keep this work measurable. Also, essential oils are less likely to give more sensitive people chemical induced headaches (like a synthetic fragrance might).

Yes, essential oils are generally considered safe but are highly concentrated plant extracts so general safety protocols are required. It is important to be aware of any allergies or sensitivities you may have to specific oils before usage. This is why our intake and assessment process can take up to 10 days. We'll want to make sure that we approach your sessions as thoughtfully and as safely as possible.

Inhalation of essential oils and other aromatics is one of the the safest, fastest and most effective ways to work within this modality. It not only engages the limbic system immediately but you remove the potential for skin reactions or irritations.

While not a formal term, I use it to describe how our world has been inundated, or polluted rather, with synthetic fragrances. From plug-in “deodorizers”, air fresheners, cleaning products and laundry products to all the fragrances we put on our bodies. Not only are they endocrine system disruptors but they can also distort our sense of smell to a degree that our olfactory system can become compromised. This is not unlike the phenomenon a heavy smoker can experience. We become desensitized and that can actually be dangerous.

No. You receive customized blends from me as part of this work, but I do not sell oils, nor do I support the practice or products of any MLM companies.

No, but I most likely will suggest that you acquire some for your future use, and even sometimes during our session work to expand the benefits. It is not required though.

In many cases, yes, smell training can help retrain the brain to recognize and respond to scent again. Thanks to the brain’s neuroplasticity (its ability to adapt and form new connections), consistent smell work can create real progress. While it’s not a guaranteed fix for everyone, many people experience noticeable improvement, and even partial recovery can make a big difference in daily life. See the Resource section for specific research on the topic.

No, it does not, nor is it a quick fix for difficult challenges. This work takes time and mindfulness. The upside? It’s not hard  and is actually fun and enjoyable and the unknown benefits will surprise you.

As much as I wish I could work with everyone, there are some cases that I cannot work with at this time:

  • Anyone under the age of 16
  • Clients with severe dementia (although, I do work with care-takers)
  • Clients with severe Autism (although, I do work with care-takers)
  • Those with Anosmia brought about by severe head trauma which has persisted for years.
  • Those who are suffering from severe forms of mental illness such as psychosis, schizophrenia or bi-polar disorders.

No.

I am not currently working with clients under the age of 16, but I do work with parents of younger children.
