About Mo Cole

I'm Mo Cole. Certified aromatherapist, olfaction specialist, and someone who has personally lost her sense of smell and gotten it back.

That last part matters. When you work with me, you’re not getting someone who studied smell loss from a textbook. You’re getting someone who has sat with the disorientation, complete disbelief, and the slow return of something you didn’t realize you’d taken for granted until it was gone (yes, even I took it for granted!).

For someone whose entire professional life is built around scent, losing it wasn’t just a health issue, it was an identity crisis. My livelihood, my creativity, my ability to do the work I’d spent years building, all of it suddenly inaccessible. That experience gave me a level of understanding that no amount of study could replicate.

My background in aromatics started well before COVID though. A stubborn case of eczema sent me deep into natural remedies, which led to formulating my own skincare and soap, which led to a line of essential oil-driven skincare and bath products called FOLK Botanicals. Along the way I kept noticing something that had nothing to do with skin, the moment I walked into my studio and inhaled, everything shifted. Mood, focus, presence. That observation sent me down a different path entirely and I began to take this phenomenon of inhaled aromatics more seriously and began to study why and how this mechanism worked.

Down the aromatic wormhole I went: : Certified Aromatherapist training, essential oil chemistry and physiology, the kinetics of essential oils, and AromaPsychology levels 1 and 2 with the Tisserand Institute.

Smell recovery is an important part of what I do, but it’s not all I do. The same deep understanding of how scent affects the brain and nervous system applies to a range of other work, namely helping people with stress and anxiety, attention and focus, brain fog, mood, and sleep. Scent is a surprisingly direct line to the parts of the brain that regulate all of it.

I am not an MD. I am not a licensed therapist or psychologist. What I am is genuinely experienced and trained in this specific, narrow, and underserved area, and completely straight with you about what this work can and cannot do. If you’re a good fit, I’ll tell you. If you’re not, I’ll tell you that too.

No MLM. No fluff. No waiting around hoping things improve on their own.
